Van Gogh's Sunflowers - In this lesson students already familiar with Adobe Photoshop will explore the work of Vincent Van Gogh and create a digital interpretation of his famous Sunflowers in a Vase.
Interpreting Art through Music: In this lesson students work in groups to solve the problem of representing music in a visual context. The students will analyze a particular style of music and develop a visual language to represent that style, then each student will create a work of art to interpret a particular piece of music from within that musical genre.
Tropical Haiku: In this lesson students create their own haiku poetry and then illustrate one of their poems in a sumi-e scroll. The students work on reading, writing and multicultural awareness while creating an authentic work. As assessments there are 4 notebook projects, a rubric and the final project:
The Color Wheel Part 1: This lesson introduces the color wheel with a short PowerPoint presentation followed by a fun project where the students use frosting colored in the three primary colors to create a color wheel made of frosted cookies.
The Color Wheel Part 2: In this lesson the students work with color harmonics and color mixing by creating a single design and using three different color mixing schemes. The concept is introduced with a short PowerPoint (listed below) and is assessed with a notebook project, a short quiz, a rubric and the authentic student projects.
