ISusan Foltz, Susan Convery Foltz, Florida Teacher, Art Teacher, Florida Art Teacher  Art education promotes critical thinking. Through art students can explore the world of divergent thought. In one of my favorite lessons I ask the students to come up with 20 different images of an apple.  At first, almost everyone imagines the universal symbol for an apple.  When they allow their minds to loosen up they begin to develop some really interesting original ideas about apples.  Each student begins to bring his or her own personality and unique sense of humor to the exploration. Creative thought combined with self discipline is the key to success in any area.

Art asks students to imagine new possibilities, to explore ambiguity and to recognize multiple perspectives.
Does your school want more teachers with a passion for developing critical thinking skills, deep knowledge of their subject area, infectious enthusiasm. with-it-ness, commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic?  If so, you have come to the right place.  On these pages you will find a copy of my resume, some sample lessons I have prepared and two enthusiastic reference letters.

I  am fully certified as an art teacher by the State of Florida Department of Education

During the summer of 2010 I was the senior counselor for the University School at Nova
Southeastern University's arts camp.  I developed a curriculum where we spent one week exploring balance, one week exploring work of the great masters, another week on cartooning and illustrating and one more travelling around the world through art.

I worked regularly as a substitute teacher for several Broward County high schools and middle schools. In 2009, I had full responsibility for my own arts classroom at Northeast High in Broward County for the first 6 weeks of the school year. There I developed all curriculum and handled all the functions of the teacher.  As a substitute teacher I have been exposed to many different classroom management styles and I have accumulated a wealth of great lesson plans in all areas of the arts curriculum.

My Teaching Philosophy:

It is one of my core philosophies that all children are gifted and each one has a unique combination of gifts. Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences ties in beautifully with my own personal experience of the world. I firmly believe that it is the teacher's job to respond to his or her students in a way that helps them to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses with strategies that will build their confidence and skills.  Using visual problems to look at everyday objects in a new way asks students to develop their ability to think differently and value their own personal experience.

I believe that visual arts tap into areas of the brain that traditional education neglects.  Learning to "see" as an artist activates many dormant parts of the cerebral cortex.  As students learn to perceive light, shape, movement, form and color they activate the areas of the brain where creativity dwells.  Visual problem solving and the creative revision process enhance every student's ability to think innovatively.  My intent is to use visual problem solving to motivate, to open doors and to make new connections through projects that foster growth through personal artistic expression.

My Goal:

To become a full time art educator in a school which values the arts.

My Objectives:

To join an educational institution where:

·  Art is a priority.

·  The administration shares my conviction that art enhances the student's physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

·  The administration and teachers work as a team to provide a challenging learning environment for students.

·  The administration, teachers and students routinely give their best and are rewarded for it.
